Solution

The Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centre (NSHSC), located in Halifax, had a server that was reaching the end of its useful lifespan and was concerned about the difficulty of getting ongoing support for its current system. Nicom came to its rescue by reviewing the existing setup and needs, and made recommendations for new hardware and a server operating system. After NSHSC accepted the proposal, Nicom implemented its suggestions, which included configuring a new Windows 2003 server, and migrating services, data and user information, from a Novell, to the new server. During the change, both the old and new servers were accessible so there was very little downtime and disruption to NSHSC’s daily tasks.

Result

The Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centre now has an up-to-date system that meets its needs, and has the capacity to be expanded in the future.

Nicom was presented with an international Winning Customer Award from Microsoft Corporation based on this Novell Netware migration for the NSHSC. Awards were presented to 35 companies from around the world, and we are one of two companies in Canada who won. The winners of this award, and several others, were announced at the 2004 Microsoft Worldwide Partner Program Conference, Microsoft's premier annual event for Microsoft Certified Partners, on July 13, 2004 in Toronto, ON. Over 9,500 attendees from around the world were at the conference and made it a great success.
